Largest slot machine jackpot in history

The largest Vegas jackpot (or indeed, in the whole world) was the hit on the Megabucks slot machine for $39,713,982.25 at Excalibur on March 21, 2003.

Megabucks offers the largest jackpots of any slot in the world, with a minimum payout of $10 million.  Megabucks jackpots are the biggest because it's a progressive slot, meaning that the jackpot grows as people play it, and because it's networked across the whole state of Nevada, so play on any Megabucks in the whole state drives the jackpot higher.  It's kind of like a slot machine version of a state lottery.

Since playing one spin on Megabucks ($3) is kind of like buying a lottery ticket, with a low cost offering the chance of winning a life-changing amount, it's on my list of Top 10 Things to Do in Vegas.

Large progressive jackpots are available online

If you can't make it to Vegas, Bovada has dozens of progressive jackpot slots, with the biggest jackpot being $329k (Gold Rush Gus) as I write this. (advertisement)  If you play for real money, be sure to follow the rules for gambling smart.

In Nov. 2022 Houston businessman Jim McIngvale won nearly $75 million from $10 million in bets on the Houston Astros.  He made his bets at a variety of sportsbooks; the largest payout was $30M from Caesars for $3M in bets there. (SportsHandle)

Below are all the large (≥$250k) Vegas jackpot wins that I could find between 2018 and Jan. 20, 2022.  I won't be adding any new jackpots, since this page was never very popular and tracking down all the jackpots took a lot of time.

However, if you know of any I missed from the period I covered (2018-21), please let me know (and be sure to include a link to the article about it; I can't report a jackpot without evidence).

Vegas.com has an older list of Vegas jackpots, but it hasn't been updated since July 2018 (as of March 2021), and doesn't include the 3/29/18 jackpot in my table above.  LVOL has a list of Wheel of Fortune jackpots going back to 1997.

I suggest you play something other than slots because slot odds are so bad.  You could also play online with fake money, because then it doesn't matter if you lose.  A good casino for free-play is Bovada, since it requires no download and no registration.  (If you see a registration box, you can close it and continue without registering.)  You can play with real money too, though I hope you won't (or at least won't bet more than you can comfortably afford to lose).
